About the Book

Theres No Business Like The Hunting Business

The Hunting Business is a deep dive look at the business-side of hunting. This is not a typical hunting adventure book, but through his thirty-six years of full-time experience in the hunting industry, Greg Simons weaves plenty of interesting, anecdotal information throughout the pages of this seminal work, making this an enjoyable and interesting read about a business that stirs the imagination of many. Topics include basic business principles, peculiar features of this business, risk management, marketing, harvest photography, taxidermy and meat considerations, customer service strategies, lodging and culinary recommendations, and many other key components of building a successful hunting business. Simons also provides an honest introspection on conservation dilemmas, public perceptions, the need to play the advocacy game more intelligently, and the role that NGOs play in the space of conservation and hunting. The final chapter takes a hard look at the future of hunting and Simons shares some candid concerns, while also identifying some encouraging signs that provide hope for tomorrows generation of stakeholders.

About the Author

In 1987, immediately after graduating from Texas A&M University with a Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences degree, Greg Simons launched Wildlife Systems, Inc. (WSI). WSI has grown into one of the largest and most recognized outfitting and wildlife-related businesses in the U.S., currently operating hunting programs on almost 1 million acres in Texas. He also co-owns Wildlife Consultants, LLC, which provides wildlife management services to more than 50 private landowners in several states. In 2018, he helped fledge Conservation Equity Partners (CEP), LLC. Currently, Simons serves as a principal in CEP, which places large sums private equity into ecosystem service markets including environmental mitigation, forestry management, natural resource-based recreation, and other emerging ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) markets.

Few people have crossed over between commercial hunting and natural resource conservation as broadly and successfully as Greg Simons, while also actively donating time and money to help support causes important to him personally and professionally. While he is entering the twilight of his professional life, Simons appetite for civic engagement and professional achievement remains strong and his commitment to serving as an advocate for wild things and wild places is unwavering. The Hunting Business is offered as the capstone of Simons career.
